Update on registering your Dual Sport kitted Dirt Bike
A Reno Nv. Lawyer who is involved in this issue has helped get some movement through DMV and other related agencies. He has
a thread on thumper talk as playashark. Here is what we have as of the beginning of Feb. of the draft. Baja Designs type kits
will be checked at dealers. They and the bike owner will sign a liability waiver, to not hold DMV liable of anything that may
go wrong with the bike. Take it to DMV for a plate. Hopefully this should be in effect in a couple of months. Oz also brought
up the idea that we need to get more social. Lets email/phone each other and play!!! Oz will get the complete email/phone
list together. More to come.
Fund Raiser Ride
Doug explained the poker run fund raiser issues. The BLM has a moratorium on permitting any new events. The event would require
an Environmental Impact Statement and the BLM does not have the time or funding for these. And we would need to get written
permission to cross any private land holdings. However, Arthur Callen said if we could stick to the routes used by existing
events we could coat tail on the EIS done for those events. Once we turn in our request for an event there is 180 day waiting
period before the BLM will give a thumbs up or thumbs down. We would need to pay a up front fee that is non-refund able even
if the event is turned down. The group voted to continue with the process for most likely a fall run. Contact Doug Holcomb for
more info and/or ideas.
SB 394 - The Titling and Registration of Off Highway Vehicles
Info is on our web site. Check the archive area under 2009, 2009 Legislative session. This will be overseen be a state wide
Commission of Off-Highway Vehicles. The commission will be comprised of OHVers, hunters, industry, organizations, etc.
This would be a great opportunity for one of us to have a say in the state wide committee. The Commission will oversee the
process of handing out grants from the Revolving account for Off-Highway Vehicles that will be funded by the registration fees.
Applications will need to be in by 1 July, which is when the Governor is to make the appointments. We need a volunteer to
represent northern Nv. and PNMTA. The Pat will have more info at the March meeting.
As a side note, Counties can apply for State routes to be legal for OHV travel. We need to put together a list of roads that
should be included. Email Pat at kdxkawboy@aol.com. He will be compiling the route ideas and working with James to present our
suggestions to Douglas County.
International Motorsports Expo
The International Motorsports Expo is happening March 12,13,14 in Reno. An email went out not too long ago asking for
volunteers to staff our booth and to help set up Thursday the 11th. Terry is coordinating. Call him asap for available
dates and times to help out. You can reach Terry at 775-246-9922, or email to
protechrv@ccrvparts.com.
USFS Planning Process
As another example of our “leaders” bipartisan ship boondoggle, the current administration is planning to re institute the
2000 Clinton admin Forest Service planning. I don't have any other info at the moment except that the time frame is mid
March. PLEASE EMAIL YOUR CONGRESS FOLK AND LET THEM KNOW HOW IMPORTANT MOTORIZED AND ALL RECREATION IS. I will try to get
more info out soon.
Lets work on growing our Association by bringing in new members, aligning local businesses and increasing our social contacts.
Lets be a Fun Association that Really Tries. (Just seeing who reads this to the end)
