Last year during our fight against the Public Lands Bill the Nevada Wilderness Project asked Senator Harry Reid to sponsor a
young lady from Yerington got involved. Melissa Hanley, a student at Yerington High School, created a T-shirt asking people to FTWP,
Fight The Wilderness Project. She paid for the T-shirts out of her own pocket and put in the hard labor to do the silk screening.
All profits from the sale of these T-shirts went to funding the Coalition for Public Access and their fight against the Public Lands
Bill
According the Nevada Wilderness Project's web site they claim Melissa was paid to make these T-shirts. Like she was paid to make
and distribute these4 T-shirts by some lunatic fringe group that just hates the NWP so bad we wanted to tell the world F*U*C*K the
Wilderness Project.
When I saw this page ... lets just say what I was thinking can't be said in polite society. Here was a young lady standing up for
something she strongly believed in and the NWP is calling her a hired gun. And these are the people that brought in their hired guns
from Colorado and Alaska to speak at the meeting where Melissa was selling her T-shirts?
To Melissa I would say, "Your T-shirt hit a nerve to get such a knee jerk reaction out of those jerk." To our way of thinking, you
give us faith in the next generation. Not because you agreed with our stand (though we are some proud you took a stand with us),
but because you took a stand, because you cowgirl'd up for what you believe. You challanged the NWP and they backed down. Put their
tales between their legs and headed for the low ground.
