Minutes of Meeting on January 5th

In Attendence: 20 members and 2 new members
Officers:

  • President – Pat Schmid
  • Vice President – Oz Cheek
  • Secretary - Doug Holcomb
  • Directors - Nate Littrell

Oz mentioned how important it ts that we hear from ALL members on any and all issues that you are concerned about. The effectiveness of this association is due to the diversity of our members, openness of our discussion and then coming together toward achieving a common goal. Please feel free to contribute.

Fund Raiser Ride
It was decided to try to organize a poker run as a fund raiser and a way to bring people into the Pine Nuts. Probably not before early summer due to BLM's 180 day application period. Discussion was for something for the different user groups. Terry has possible insurance info. A committee of Oz, Clay, Dave, Butch, Jon and Doug was formed. More to come.

Grant with Great Basin Institute
Pat will contact Dave Mensing about “hiring” PNMTA members for next summers ground work with the “pay” going to the Assoc. This ground work would involve GPSing the main arteries throughout the Pine Nuts to develop a basic travel map. We will also look into the possibility of the PNMTA filing for its own grant to do some of the work Dave is planning, if the GBI turns down our offer to be their cheap labor.

Blue Ribbon Coalition
It was suggested to contact Don Amador of the BRC to compare whats happening here with other areas land use plans. Idaho and Michigan were mentioned as State models to follow.

OHV Registration
Before next meeting Pat will have more thorough info on the web site about the legislation that was passed. The information will include the bill, as it was passed along with a over view of which sections make for must reading. Basically, State legislation did pass to begin titleing OHV's. By July 2010 the Gov will appoint a state wide commission with 11 members. Several of these members are to represetantives of the OHV community: One general OHV representative; one representing motorcylists; one represtenting quad riders; one representing racing interests; one represetnting snowmobilers. We should have a member on the commission. Any takers? Contact Pat for information on howw to apply. July 2011 OHV registration will start. DMV will administer the program. More details to come. Check the website.

Registration of Dirt Bikes with DS Kits
Oz and Keith will contact Settlemyer concerning Dual sport registration and trying to revise the current law at the next legislative session. Mentioned is a lawyer on Thumpertalk that is dealing with this issue also. Pat will set up a separate page on our website for this only issue.
